FAQ
“With your determination combined with professional therapy, you can leave unwanted behaviour in the past”
As a therapist, are you suitably qualified ?
-
Having completed my professional Doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy (June 2006), combined with over 500 hours of classroom study, I consider myself suitably qualified to deal with most behavioural issues.
As well as trained in Hypnotherapy, I am also a Master Practitioner of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and trained in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
As Hypnotherapy is not yet government regulated in the United Kingdom, be careful when booking a therapist as there are plenty practicing having trained distance learning only, with no practical supervision ever taken place.
I am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com/Therapists/England/Middlesex.htm) and insured with Towergate / SMG Professional Risks, with £2,000,000 liability.
So you can book with confidence, I am qualified, registered and insured.
Can everyone be Hypnotised ?
-
Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have an ability to concentrate, everyone goes into natural altered (otherwise known as ‘trance’) states at some point. It is not appropriate for very young children or people with certain mental disabilities. I cannot force you to go into hypnosis against your will.
I have seen a Hypnotherapist before and did not feel I was Hypnotised. Will this happen again ?
-
A correct explanation of the therapy is very important, with one of the biggest misconceptions of Hypnosis being that you will be asleep. You will be conscious throughout the whole experience.
I do not book my sessions hourly, so that time can be taken as everyone is different and some people take a little longer than others to reach the required state.
I consider myself ‘headstrong’ or/and intelligent, can this still work for me ?
-
This is a very common question. If you are intelligent then this is a bonus as you need to concentrate to allow this process to happen. If you have imagination and are prepared to act out in your mind what I will ask you to do then this will simply work. This is essentially self Hypnosis with me only guiding your mind.
Do you treat children ?
Yes. I am a full time father and I manage to gain a good rapport with children. Naturally, any client under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Will I lose control like I see on the T.V ?
No, you remain in control at all times. I or any other Hypnotherapist cannot have control over you.
Will I made to do something silly ?
No, not if you don’t want to. Any Hypnotherapist will not make you do anything you would not normally do apart from facilitate positive change. This area of Hypnosis is left for Stage Hypnotists.
What is the ’trance state’ ?
The trance state is simply an altered state of awareness, in which the client's attention is focussed on inner resources. Although everyone's experience of trance is slightly different, you'll always feel both comfortable and relaxed, and may experience a pleasant sense of "drifting" and detachment from your surroundings.
Do I have to re-live past events to gain therapeutic change ?
Even if the ‘cause’ is linked to a past event, it doe’s not have to be re-lived. There are many approaches that can be taken; I only deal with the ‘cause’ if it is necessary. Why re-live a situation when the ‘effect’ can be ‘reframed’, still resulting in life long, permanent change. Instead of the one dimensional approach that is the norm, each client that I see is treated as an individual, tailoring the therapy accordingly.
How many sessions will I need ?
To stop smoking just one single session will normally be required. For anything else, that depends on your motivation and desire to change. Everybody is different. However, hypnotherapy is a very effective therapy and I will want to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. We will review your progress so that at any time you can make a valued judgement about how the therapy is progressing and if any more sessions will be required.
How long does a session last ?
The first session is approx 1 ½ hours, any further sessions are hourly. Quit smoking in one session is 2 hours.
Is all information and personal details kept confidential ?
Yes, 100%
How often will I need to have treatment/therapy ?
This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made. With my belief that change can happen quickly, I focus on change to take place from one double session. However, some clients see me once a fortnight or even once a month in rare circumstances.
Can somebody come with me ?
It is not advised as being around someone you know well may alter what you say in and out of therapy. If you can only feel comfortable with somebody with you, this is allowed.
Will I be OK to drive or work after the session ?
Yes, this is not a problem. Afterwards you feel very relaxed, as though you have had a thirty minute doze. Even if sleep has not taken place you will be more than ready for the rest of the day, just feeling good, calm and confident that change has taken place.
How Much Does It Cost?
Please see the ‘prices and availability’ section. A minimum of twenty-four hours notice is required to cancel or rearrange appointments or a 50% cancellation fee may be charged.
If you require any more information do not hesitate to contact me by phone or E-mail, I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
